Play Chefs is the brainchild of Chrissie Hirst, a mother of two, now teenage, children, a qualified primary school teacher, a former chef, and the owner of Playmates, the very successful children’s playcentre based in Chorley, now in its 15th year of operation.

Always on the look out for new ideas to inspire, educate and entertain children, Chrissie has recognised over the years how much children enjoy participating in creative activities which fire their imagination and take pride in sharing the results with their family and friends. It was almost natural, therefore, that Chrissie decided to combine her passion for cooking with her teaching skills and vast knowledge and experience of creating and organising activities and parties for over 100,000 children to create Play Chefs whose mission is to make children passionate about food and cooking through fun and learning.

Play Chefs is all about participation, not just for the children but for the adults as well. Parents and guardians are encouraged to help and support their children during the activities so that they become valuable, shared experiences. One of Chrissie’s earliest memories is the joy of helping her mother in the kitchen, especially with baking, which sparked her enthusiasm for food and cooking from an early age. She hopes that Play Chefs will enable lots of other children and their parents to create their own very special memories.
