English Heritage sites brace for end of season sizzler!

Weather forecasters are predicting a return to temperatures not really seen since May later on this week, so staff at some of English Heritage’s key sites are bracing for an extra influx of visitors keen to make the most of the bonus ‘summer’ weather!

September has already been a very positive month for visitor figures at sites like Whitby Abbey, Brodsworth Hall and Clifford’s Tower, as a record number of couples and heritage enthusiasts have made the most of the drier weather to visit.

“Our visitor profile always changes when the schools return, with older visitors and couples – including those with pre-school children – wanting to make the most of the last few weeks of summer, but this year’s visitor figures have been significantly higher than last at many of our sites,” comments English Heritage’s marketing manager for the North, Caroline Sinclair. “With fantastic weather forecast for the rest of this week and into next weekend, it looks like September will be a bumper month for visitor figures.”

Indeed, the Indian summer provides visitors with a chance to enjoy some of Yorkshire’s finest outdoor sites at their most colourful. The woodland bank behind Rievaulx Abbey is now a patchwork of colour as the trees change from vibrant summer green to vivid shades of red and yellow, whilst the foliage all over the city of York provides colour to the fantastic views from the top of Clifford’s Tower in York.

“Many people’s photo albums are sadly lacking lovely sunny photographs of family days out from this summer, so this is a great time to give the summer wardrobe a last airing for the year, pack a picnic and head out into the sunshine with your camera!” adds Caroline.
