St. George is on a mission, and Clifford’s Tower is appealing for young visitors to help him fulfil his mission – capturing not just one, but a whole host of wandering dragons which are hiding around the famous monument!
For two days, visitors are invited to become dragon hunters, scouring every last corner of Clifford’s Tower to find the eight elusive model dragons that have taken up residence within the former keep of York Castle. Only by finding all six will visitors be able to claim their prize – a delicious chocolate and sticker of thanks for their brave endeavours!
“St George’s Day was always an important celebration during medieval times, when people would feast and play games – a break from the daily hard labour,” says visitor operations site supervisor, Susan Sadler. “Our own English Heritage St. George will be up at Richmond Castle fighting an 8ft tall dragon, so we’re hoping the young visitors here will help us to track down the pesky beasts that have lodged here, and possibly stand guard on our ramparts overlooking the rest of York to warn us if they see any sign of other dragons approaching!”
The trail runs on Saturday 24 & Sunday 25 April 2010 from 10.00am to 6.00pm. Admission to Clifford’s Tower is £3.50 for adults, £3.00 for concessions and just £1.80 for children, or £8.80 for a family ticket (two adults and up to three children). English Heritage members get in free. Clifford’s Tower is located in the heart of York and is open daily.
