A group of volunteers from Leeds Road based Siemens Mechanical Drives has helped the Leonard Cheshire home, Champion House at Calverley, prepare for Christmas with an urgent spruce-up – just in time for its Christmas party.
The nine-strong team was approached through Business in the Community on Monday 23 November, with an urgent challenge: to paint the large dining area and lay a new laminate floor in the IT area, which is specially adapted for disabled users – in time for a party on 3 December. The team started work on Friday 27 November and completed it the next day; to the relief of staff at Champion House, who’d thought the challenge a tricky one, time-wise.
Champion House housekeeper Sandra Watmuss said the area had been transformed, just in time for the big party for about 70 people, including residents, their families and staff: “We’d like to thank the Siemens team for a great job. Our volunteers, who come in all the year round, have commented positively on it, and it looked super – all trimmed up for the series of parties, which have been going really well. It made a big difference, having a newly decorated party room.”
The Siemens volunteer team comprised team leader Steve Furniss, Gary Husband, Martin Ingham, Adam France, Neil Parker, Mick Baxter, Tony Sutcliffe, Allen Harrison and Nick Garthwaite.
Leonard Cheshire Disability supports over 21,000 disabled people in the UK and works in 52 countries, giving disabled people the opportunity to live life their way.
