New website promises escape from football during the World Cup 2010!

A new website has been launched which promises users the chance to get away from the World Cup, and indeed, football of any kind by offering discounts on visitor attractions around the country.

www.escapetheworldcup.com has been set up in association with English Heritage to give football widows, and anyone else who has already heard quite enough about South Africa 2010, with 2-for-1 tickets on top visitor attractions, from Whitby Abbey in North Yorkshire to Pendennis Castle in Cornwall!

“World Cup season really polarises people, from the real enthusiasts who are either in the pub watching a match, or glued to replays and pundit sessions for hours at home, but for those people who are not interested in the game, it can be a rather dull time,” comments English Heritage’s regional marketing manager for the North, Nicola Bexon. “We’ve decided to make any of our sites football-free zones, but rather than having lots of lonely singletons wandering around the sites, we’re offering a 2-for-1 ticket vouchers so that they can have a great day out with a friend without costing the earth!”

Although South Africa operates on the same time zone as the UK, many matches are scheduled for afternoons, making English Heritage sites the perfect way to escape from football fever.

“We’re also only too aware of the sore heads that too often follow successful games by the England team, so these vouchers are valid for the morning after matches, too – a perfect way to escape from the hungover fan’s pitiful moans! A walk up to the peak of Beeston Castle, in Cheshire, for example is a great way of clearing the head with some fresh air!” adds Nicola.

All the vouchers on the site are valid until 11 July 2010 excluding event days, and visitors can download as many of the 2-for-1 vouchers as they wish – a great chance to get out and see some of the region’s finest attractions!
Participating sites include:
Rievaulx Abbey, North Yorkshire
Whitby Abbey, North Yorkshire
Brodsworth Hall & Gardens, South Yorkshire
Kenilworth Castle & Elizabethan Garden, Warwickshire
Witley Court & Gardens, Worcestershire
Goodrich Castle, Herefordshire
