Smiley horse cheers up victims of highway robbery

The call of ‘Stand and Deliver!’ would have sent a chill down the spine of any early 18th century traveller on England’s roads, however dandy the highwayman might have been. However, visitors to Kenilworth Castle in Warwickshire this week who faced English Heritage’s Time Travelling Highwayman, played by historic re-enactor, Mark Vance, might feel a little better about being liberated of their jewels and valuables – thanks to the winning smile of Henry the horse!

“Henry’s ever such a friendly horse, who is always really popular with all the visitors, and when you see his toothy grin, it is easy to see why,” says Kenilworth Castle’s visitor operations manager, Holly Woodward.

Kenilworth Castle’s time travelling summer continues next week (Monday 15 – Friday 19 August) with Time Travellers Go... Medieval, and the following week (Monday 22 – Friday 26 August) with Time Travellers Go... Normans & Saxons, in preparation for the castle’s Bank Holiday extravaganza (Sunday 28 & Bank Holiday Monday 29 August) when the site undergoes two days of Norman siege!
