York Minster has today released an online video of its recent Candlelit Advent Procession service, with the 80 minute service condensed down into just three minutes!
Available online at
http://christmas.yorkminster.org, the short film shows the Minster being gradually illuminated by over 2000 candles, with the flame being passed forward through the attending congregation, and the Minster Choir’s progression around the Gothic cathedral during the service.
“This is a stunning event in York Minster’s calendar, marking the start of Advent in spectacular style. It is impossible to capture the atmosphere of the event on video, but we hope that, with this short film, we can give a taste of the evening to anyone who was not able to make it along,” comments York Minster’s Theologian, Canon Jonathan Draper.
The soundtrack for the video is “There Is No Rose” by John Joubert, performed by the Minster Choir and directed by Robert Sharpe. The track appears on the CD “A Year at York” available from the Minster Shop, priced at £10.00.
The website also features the first of a series of free Advent podcasts, with a new recording released every Sunday via Facebook and Twitter, and Monday on the site itself.
